Here’s How To Upgrade Yourself During Lock-down.

Time to Read 10 Minutes
Language: English.
The benefit of Reading: Your life can change after reading.
Reading Style: Assume every “I” as yourself. Every “You” as someone you want to help.

When I see the news reports of effected not being addressed and people becoming helpless, tears flow from my eyes. One miss-step from one human from one location of this globe seemed fetal to the world. It seems one of the worse sci-fi movies we used to watch with interest have been real. The devastating effect now and ripple effect to the world economy are just unimaginable.

I can’t imagine the devastating impact this lock-down will have on the world economy. I am always hoping scientists and health professionals will be able to find the solution to this problem soon enough. My emotional support goes to the affected family. My deepest respect to all the health professionals, police men, cleaning staff and health equipment producing companies. I will maintain the required social distance and help reduce the spread of the disease. I inspire others to do so as well.

Though this is a tough time for both effected and non effected people. For me and those who are not yet effected (and hope to remain this way), this lock-down has also provided us time to reflect on my skills and many things about life. For those who are not affected and in-home to help everyone to reduce the spread of disease, this is an ample opportunity for all the people around the globe to learn new skills.

Everything is locked down. But not the internet. And yes, internet inventions seem to be one of the best inventions of this era. Had the internet not been there, maybe, the situation of people at home would have been worse. Thanks to the internet.

While I am sitting at home doing nothing, maybe I can learn new skills so that I am better when lock-down ends than when it had begun. Here I share some of the useful and proven skills that I want to improve on.

  1. Learning How To Learn

The first and foremost thing I want to do now is to 1st fix my learning process. For that, I joined this free course offered by coursera.org. This 12 hours course contains best techniques with logical reasoning and have helped a lot of people around the globe. Since my motive is to learn new skills, I will be better off and learn faster if I can know how to learn faster. Surely I don’t want to miss this. Not to mention, it is one of the highest demanded course in the coursera.org subjects list.

Here’s how anyone can join the course:

2. Learning to Stay Calm: Meditate

Staying home for so long days have been a nightmare to many of the folks. However, staying calm at any given situation is the best thing to do. And luckily staying calm can be learnt through meditation. “Meditation” or “Dhyana” means to go beyond the limitations of the physical body and the mind. Only when you transcend the limited perspective of the body and the mind do you have a complete dimension of life within you.

There are a lot of people in the web to claim to teach how to meditate well. But, the best place to learn is from the best teachers. And the best place I can think of is Isha Foundation. Sadguru is the best teacher you can find out there to learn meditation and clarification on many issues of life. In the office web page of Isha Foundation I can find may guided meditations, but one I have been practicing is Isha Kriya. Perfecting this one practice has been enough for me.

3. Be in Harmony With the Universe :Yoga

The word “yoga” essentially means, “that which brings you to reality”. Literally, it means “union.” Union means it brings you to the ultimate reality, where individual manifestations of life are surface bubbles in the process of creation. Yoga means to move towards an experiential reality where one knows the ultimate nature of the existence, the way it is made.

Ailments are of two kinds – one is infectious; meaning it’s an invasion from outside – like current Corona Virus. We have to deal that with medicine. But there are ailments that are produced within the body and this cannot be cured by any medicine. If I do certain simple things, if I allow, fixing also happens from within and every human being is capable of this. This is where Yoga comes handy. Yoga helps to heal body from within and sometimes heal chronic diseases. The best one that I have found is “Surya Namaskar”.

Here’s a simple illustration:

4. Hook Others in Your Words: Storytelling

Among some of the important traits that I am going to use on a daily basis is telling a story to lots and lots of people. I need to hook people to my story until the end so that they perfectly understand what I am trying to say to them. They will only listen if they find it interesting, compelling and something they are been searching for. No matter how great an idea is, it is worth only if others get convinced and work along with me.

5. Learn to be comfortable in front of camera: Camera Skills

The Corona pandemic has shown how important it is for us to maintain distance. Not only that it has proved companies that work can be done from home without commuting to the office and the actual commute time can be used to improve the work-life balance of employees. On top of that companies will also be benefited by total space to rent and other expenses. So by the looks of it, 90% of the future work will be done from home. Whether I work or I don’t, I will need to have a conversation with people required to complete a task for me via telephone or through the camera. Becoming comfortable to talk and negotiate through the camera will be the next most demanded skills after the lock-down. I have sufficient time to learn it now. And I am making use of this time to improve my skills.

6. Identify My Passion:

No matter how hard I try I will not be able to give my 100% on the things/work that is forced into me. Now there is ample time, I will just set aside a few minutes for my meditation and try to look inside from childhood till this date. I’ll try to look out what made me happy then, what I want to do for the world, or what I wanted to do when I grew as an adult. I can simply ask these questions while I am meditating and I will find the answers as well. It may take a few rounds of meditation up to a week to find a clear and precise answer. It’s never too late to start. I can always start working on my passion as a side hobby or a side business. It will give me a sense of fulfilment and make me more productive in my regular job.

Thanks for reading till the end. I hope you learn new skill and become your enhanced version when the lock-down ends. Please comment what skills you have developed during this lock-down period and your suggestions.

Here’s How to Achieve Your Dreams No Matter How Difficult it Seems

When I see someone post in social networking sites or hear about other’s success and find myself stuck in the process of making my dreams a reality, I often think wow they are so lucky.

The problem here is not that I am not capable, but to think that I might not make it. This creates me to lose my focus and be disheartened.

I was tuned to see only limited information at a time. I was taught that way, and I accepted it to be that way. I never questioned what I was taught and took it all in without filtering. Making it worse, are the response to the stories that are told through friends, relatives, and internet – Others are great and maybe I am really useless.

I have a superficial view of things that happen with my friends, relatives or the world. I fail to see the real struggle, the years of hard work, and bounce-back that the successful people have made.

Bombarded with all the success stories and limited vision, I often think I am good for nothing or I will not be able to succeed in any en-devours that I wish to achieve. I see that progress on a personal goal or my dream or my business is slowing down. I am losing it. I want to make a silly decision to give up. Close ones also often don’t help much. But maybe it’s just a test.

Eventually, I found out, exploration is the key to discovery and motivation. I need to do some digging on my latest prospect and perspective today, each-day. And I’ll find the people who have walked the same path that I am in now. Their dreams may be different, but the pain was the same.

I learn them, their hard work and their struggle. And how they made it when all hope was gone. This excellent information that I acquire gives me the inspiration and the drive to crack it, reach the goal and feel. Feel the happiness. Feel the lightened heart. Feel the superficial story that’s been told about how lucky and how successful I am. So finally I can say that I have made it.

Those difficulties were just a test to see if I was worth it. It is often after the worse time that I start to achieve my success. Its made that way because nature wants only those giving their heart and soul into the game to be the winner. The spot is reserved for the stubborn.

I also feel the drive to save those poor sour, who are bombarded with superficial information that’s been shared with them. I want to share with the world, and those who are dis-heartened, please do not fall for that. Please explore. Success doesn’t happen overnight. It takes years and years of practice and patience and reluctance to never give up. Things aren’t always perfect, but attitude is everything. Imperfection and resistance make you shine more. And all of the above never cease to believe in yourself no matter how worse the situation seems.

So finally you can say, “I have made it”. Hold your chin up, keep smiling, and start helping those who are stuck. Who are struggling to reach their goals as you were, and who are thinking of giving up as you were.

Dreams can’t be achieved by being selfish but by helping each other to get to the top.
